Coming Soon: Biological 'Fax Machines'

Researchers at biotech firm Synthetic Genomics have developed a device that can turn digitized DNA code — genetic blueprints — into biological material, according to the Wall Street Journal. Such tech could allow researchers to print specially tailored vaccines and other medicines in just 24 hours, vastly cutting down the time it takes to deliver new treatments. By contrast, developing flu vaccines today requires inserting viruses into eggs and waiting around for six months for the virus to grow.
