Girls are not made with
sugar and spice
and everything nice.
We are a mix of hope
and never-ending passion.
We are rose petals and bullets
and red lipstick and clenched fists.
Girls are made up of
everything that hurts
but also everything that loves.
Girls are not just made up of
everything nice – we are made
of pain and sorrow,
regret and guilt,
anger and wrath.
Girls are not to be simplified
to sugar and spice and things
found in kitchens.
Girls are complex human beings
who are ugly and pretty
and strong and weak
and passionate and loving
and strong
and strong
and strong.
Do not call me “sugar”
when I am so much more than that.
