# May Day

Today we celebrate May Day (International Workers Day).

May Day is a public holiday usually celebrated on 1 May. It is an ancient Northern Hemisphere spring festival[1] and a traditional spring holiday in many cultures. Dances, singing, and cake are usually part of the festivities. (Knowpedia)

It may be a public holiday celebrated on May 1st, but it is a world wide celebration of people who work that generally go on strike for this "holiday". In the United States there isn’t much of a grand festival or huge celebration that takes place. It is merely is another holiday which isn't a real holiday in the United States. May day would be well spent if there were actually festivals and places to go out that celebrate such an occasion.

If anyone knows more about these festivals (strikes) going on around the world or have a place that really celebrates May Day let me know in the comments below! I'd love to know more about how other countries participate in this day.
