Rodriguez was first elected to the Assembly in a 2013 special election to replace then-Assemblymember Norma Torres, who was elected to the California State Senate in a special election. He narrowly defeated independent Onatrio Mayor Paul Leon[2]
Rodriguez is term-limited and could not run for re-election in 2024. His wife, Michelle, advanced to the general election alongside a Republican.[3]
In 2024, Rodriguez ran in the Pomona mayoral election. He lost to incumbent Mayor Tim Sandoval, placing second with 27.98% of the vote.[4]
