Crunchy Pickled Jalapenos

I’m Vietnamese. Therefore, I like spice in my foods. Of my favorites, are jalapeno peppers.

Jalapenos add a nice kick to any dish—not just Viet go-to foods like phó, but many dishes. A tasty Vietnamese snack food with jalapenos is Vietnamese crunchy pickled jalapenos, which in my language are called, Ot Ngam Giam.

What?! Jalapenos as a snack?! Absolutely! They’re crunchy and delicious. It’s quick and easy, doesn’t require soaking in hot water, and they keep well when refrigerated. If you don't like preparing your own, you can even buy them at the market.

They have a nice kick that is tempered with sweet and tangy flavors. They’re not for everyone, jalapenos are rated at 5,000 units on the Scoville scale (which measures spicy heat in chili peppers based on their amount of capsaicin), so be careful.

But if you can stand the heat, stay in the kitchen and create a peck of crunchy pickled peppers—jalapeno peppers that is! You’ll be glad you did.
