There are now more job openings than people unemployed, reports Axios. Many of the industries struggling to recruit millennials, in particular, pay well and offer excellent benefits — but they’re physically or mentally demanding, if not both. Some of the American industries affected include:
Construction: Young U.S workers are shunning trucking because many businesses aren’t willing to offer training programs.
Farming: Americans don't want to work in agriculture and the government’s guest worker program is too expensive for growers.
Trucking: The current shortage of 51,000 drivers is predicted to reach 100,000 by 2021, with millennials unwilling to endure the long hours and travel.
911 call centers: The lack of resources to train and pay workers and the high mental stress factor is putting people off.
