6 Common Myths About Vaccines Debunked

A lot of people don't realise deadly the spreading of myths and conspiracy theories can be when it comes to health. Because of that, we have debunked the 6 most common myths about vaccines.

Natural Immunity Is Better Than Vaccine-acquired Immunity

Even though there are some instances where natural immunity will actually result in developing a stronger immunity to the distance than a vaccination, there are more dangerous than benefits when it comes to this approach. Let's say you wanted to gain immunity to something such as measles. By contacting them you will be looking at a 1 to 500 chance of dying from the symptoms. While if you get vaccinated you are facing less than one-in-one million chances of having an allergic reaction to the MMR vaccine. Needless to say, having a one-in-a-million chance of getting an allergic reaction is much better than having any chance of dying.

Vaccines Aren't Safe

Vaccines are completely safe. They have very low risks of any kind of serious complications or allergic reactions. All the claims about how vaccines aren't safe are incorrect and often come with no scientific proof. Every vaccine needs to go through regions testing which includes many clinical trials before they even think about releasing it to the public. In order to distribute and register any type of vaccine, they will need to go meet every single safety standard such as keeping them in a pharmacy vaccine refrigerator and meet rigorous quality standards. Once the vaccine is approved, they will still monitor it very closely because everyone's safety is top property. For instance, polio is a highly infectious disease. It is responsible for paralyzing hundreds of thousands of kids every year, even though there is no cure for it can be prevented by getting a vaccine. Since 1950 polio has been brought under control and it was almost eliminated because of the vaccine. Nowadays there is an epidemic of poliovirus in Pakistan as well as Afghanistan, but since 1988 the global incidence of polio has decreased by 99 per cent. Vaccines save lives and they give kids the chance to live a long and healthy life. Those kids who haven't gotten vaccinated will face illnesses, disabilities as well as death.

Vaccines Are Toxic

Vaccines are safe and they are not toxic. Every single internet that is found in a vaccine will serve a specific purpose in order to keep the vaccine safe, long-lasting and effective. What people don't realise is that the antigen is a weakened or inactive form of the bacteria or virus. Like that it will trigger the response of the immune system to recognize it and fight the disease. Adjuvants are there to boost the immune response and help the vaccine be more efficient. When it comes to preservatives, they are there to make sure the vaccine stays effective and stop any bacteria from growing. For example, rubella, measles and vaccines as such contain an extremely weakened version of the virus. That is because it will help the immune system recognise the virus and protect against it in the future. They don't actually give you a full dose of a virus.

Vaccines Aren't Necessary

Vaccines are essential because having proper hygiene and eating well intent enough to stop the disease from spreading. Even though those are all important, many infections will still be able to spread regardless of how clean you are. So, to prevent that from happening, you get vaccinated. When you are vaccinating your child or yourself you are protecting not only them you are protecting the community. If a sufficient percentage of the population is vaccinated, the disease is less likely to spread. But if people don't get vaccinated the diseases will spread quickly and reappear even faster which will lead to a global pandemic.

Vaccinated Children Cause Outbreaks

Vaccinated kids are not the cause of outbreaks. Immunisations save 2 to 3 million lives each year. But there are cases when a disease can spread even if a large portion of the population is vaccinated. That is because viruses can change and mutate which will leave the vaccine less effective. In order for the vaccine to work, it will need to come from the same virus. That is why it is encouraged that you get your flu shots regularly and stay safe.

Vaccines Can Make You Sick

A vaccine will not make you sick. Even though some people might experience some mild side effects from some vaccines there is no sickness that you can get from it. Serious side effects occur very rarely and they are so rare that their risk can be assessed statistically.

As you can see, there is no reason why you shouldn't get vaccinated. Getting regular immunisations will ensure that the whole community is protected from diseases and everybody can live a healthy life.
