Michael Coates, Twitter's chief information security officer is quitting the social media platform to start his own company, The Verge reports. Coates joined Twitter in January 2015. Joseph Camilleri, a senior manager who previously filled in for Coates will be his interim replacement. Recently, many information security executives have either left their jobs at large social media companies or announced their planned departures. Michael Zelewski, the director of information security engineering at Google announced he was quitting after 11 years. Alex Stamos, Facebook's chief information security officer announced his plans to quit in August. The departures come as social media companies are under mounting pressure from the public and the U.S. government to prevent their platforms from being misused ahead of the 2018 midterm elections.
