Allies announced retaliatory measures against U.S. metals tariffs taking effect Friday. Canada said it will slap “dollar-for-dollar” duties on U.S. imports of steel, aluminum and other products, echoing threats by Mexico and the European Union. The EU also said it will bring charges of protectionism against Washington before the World Trade Organization. The U.S. originally excluded the allies from global tariffs of 25% on steel and 10% on aluminum, but Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said Thursday that time had run out on talks meant to forestall them.
