Trump Halts $10.4B in Health Payments

The Trump administration has stopped making billions of dollars in risk-adjustment payments to health insurers, claiming that a federal court ruling prevents the money from being distributed, Reuters reports. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said $10.4 billion in payments have been affected by the administration's decision. The payments in question — which were instituted under the 2010 Affordable Care Act — are meant to compensate insurers that have taken on sicker, and thus more expensive, enrollees. In February, a federal court in New Mexico ruled that the formula used to calculate the payment amounts was inaccurate.
