A Basic Guideline on How to Start Eating Healthy

Eating healthy and being fit seem like simple and straightforward goals to have however it is not so easy to implement it into your daily lifestyle without some commitment. There are different components to being healthy and exercising. Some areas you will have to think about are when and where you will work out and what type of foods you will incorporate into your diet. You must start with a specific goal and plan so that it will be easier for you to make the changes and implement them into your lifestyle in the most effective way. Here are some guidelines for you to have a look at.

Food Recall

Eating healthy is a great goal to have but a broad one. Therefore in order to make it more refined to fit in with your specific body type and personal goals, it’s best to start with a food recall for a few days. A food recall is when you write down what you eat and drink in a day in a food journal in detail. You must include any snacks or nibbles apart from your main meals and drinks. Even if you drink a glass of coconut water, it is important that you write it down in your food journal. There are also diet-tracking apps online that can be used.

Meal Planning

A meal plan, on the other hand, is a great way to start making changes in your eating patterns and styles. This can act as a guide or a blueprint for the food choices you make. Meal plans can be done according to how your personal preference for example; as detailed as you want or just a few pointers. However, make sure you write out what you will be eating for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and beverages for the coming days and most likely week.  Ideally, having meals planned out for one to two weeks will help you get organized and help you in making the right changes and implementing it into your diet. This will help you analyze if you are meeting your goals and keep track of what the progress is.

Eat a Balanced Diet

One of the key components of “eating healthy” is having a varied and balanced diet that includes all the essential nutrients important for the functioning of your body. This means that you consume the right amounts of the right types of foods for you. For example; you don’t want to omit a certain food and overload on another such as eating a lot of grains while forgetting about eating fruits or vegetables. Variety in the diet means eating different types of foods from the same food group. So instead of eating only apples, you need to rotate between different fruits such as berries, oranges, pineapple to ensure you get varied nutrients.

Drink Fluids

Apart from eating, it is important to drink adequate quantities of fluids so that your body functions properly. Water is beneficial in regulating the body temperature, maintaining pH balance, managing blood pressure and so on. Aim to have at least 2 liters of water per day.
