The intent of the Template:Indigenous peoples by continent is to easily navigate this vast and diverse topic, thus simply links to groups by regions of the world regardless if it is the correct political terminology.

The WIKI links in the Template:Indigenous peoples by continent are for peoples who many be regarded as ethnic groups or the first humans of a geographic region, with which they are the earliest known cultural historical inhabitants, thus qualify under the Templates definition.

Why does Europe links to European_ethnic_groups?, there are already some indigenous people in northern Finland--Andersmusician VOTE 17:30, 24 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

We haven't (sadly) got a definition for the indigenous peoples for Europe. Are they sub-national ethnic peoples with their own language ? Goths were definitely European for a long time, but the great mirgations mixed them up. Maybe they overthrew some Celts in France and destroyed some more ancient Roman peoples (Etruscans). There's so much history that it is difficult, on occasion (even if nationalism is thrown overboard), to tell who are the original people of the area (and where the 'center' of a large people has been prior the expansion. Basques definitely fit in every definition, Sami as well, Celts (who possibly overthrew the Picts) possibly, etc... The Indigenous peoples of Europe article takes care of this issue. It states that "there is no universal, standard or fixed definition". It still deals with the topic and is the most appropriate link for this template. Neelix (talk) 12:28, 22 March 2008 (UTC)Reply Continents edit
