The district was made vacant in 2023 by the resignation of DemocratDavid Cicilline, who served from 2011 to 2023.[3] He was succeeded by Democrat Gabe Amo, a former Biden White House aide and the first Black person to represent Rhode Island as a member of Congress. [4]
